The GE Fanuc IC697CPM924 is a CPU module with a single slot that allows calculations involving floating point values. The configuration and programming of the module are done using Windows or MS-DOS programming software. This module performs the function of controlling material handling devices, processes, and machines. The rack-mounted backplane facilitates the communication between the option modules and the I/O modules. The input current required by this module is 3.3 A from the 5 V bus.
IC697CPM924 requires an ambient temperature of more than 40 °C and also requires air cooling for regular operation. This module has four green LEDs to show the module’s status. A software password or keyswitch can be used to secure the configuration as well as program data.
IC697CPM924 comes with 1 MB of memory for data as well as program storage. This module also has a flash memory, which allows the user to update firmware without removing the memory device such as EPROM. The lithium battery used in this module retains memory even after removing the power.

The IC697CPM924 module is a 32-bit CPU with a microprocessor clocked at 64 megahertz. In addition to fixed point operation, the CPU also supports floating point operation. A total of 1 megabyte of RAM is available on the CPU module. A replaceable lithium battery provides backup power to the RAM in case of mains power failure. The rated shelf life of the lithium battery is 10 years at 68 degrees Fahrenheit ambient temperature. In the event that the PLC rack power is removed, the battery can provide backup power to the RAM so that the stored application data is retained for a nominal period of 6 months. The old battery needs to be removed before a new battery can be installed.
The operating temperature range for the IC697CPM924 CPU module is from 0 to 60 degrees Celsius. If the ambient temperature exceeds this range, then the performance may be degraded and extreme high temperatures can even lead to module failure. The IC697CPM924 module supports software configuration with an integrated serial port, a parallel port on the bus transmitter PLC module, and an optional Ethernet module that can be used to connect to computers that are running the configuration software.
